Energy drinks and gels compared

After my recent cramping exercise I did a bit of a comparison between sports drinks and gels I have. I’d be interested in expanding the table below with any other comparative figures anybody cares to send me by PM. Let’s not all post bits of a table, better to keep it in one place.

Code:

Notes *:
Gatorade lists sucrose (4.5g) and glucose (1.8g) as sugars under carbohydrate
Carboshotz lists sucrose (1.7g), maltose (0.3g) and glucose (2.1g) as sugars under carbohydrate

Chemical symbols:
Na = Sodium
K = Potassium
Mg = Magnesium
Ca = Calcium

I’ve based all drink figures on 100ml. The gels are per serving/sachet/tube. So, roughly 300-400ml of drink offers the same energy and carbs as a gel but the minerals are all over the place.

No gels listed magnesium.

A zero indicates either zero or no listing in the ingredients. A “?” in sugars means the ingredients list didn’t state how much sugar(s) contributed to the carbohydrate content. I know Leppin Squeezy talks of complex carbs in a manner which appears to exclude sugars.

Thanks to murray from the bv forums for that info

You should test ZYM it is a new effervescent sports drink tablet, I just tried it for the Chicago Marathon, tasted better then Gatorade and I cramped less!
