Im thinking of buying one of these bikes as it seems somewhat more robust than my crx 2 for the harsh bumpy glassy commute over road and tram track in melbourne
Any one got any thoughts on these bikes or the brand in general

Trek make a very good touring bike, which will stand up to some heavy work, so I presume their mountain bikes are of the same calibre.
Be aware that with disks, you may have to get a new rack to fit a bike with disk brakes. You may also have to check the pannier clearances.
Take you rack and panniers into the store and see if it fits.

Comment by cbg December 13, 2006 @ 11:42 amI have a 7.3 fx without disc brakes (they add weight and the regular brakes work fine in the city). I think all bikes require derailer adjustment from time to time, but a new 7.3 comes with a great guide/cd which tells you clearly how to do this yourself (if you don’t already know). It’s a lightweight bike with great speed, but it doesn’t soak up potholes with the same effectiveness as a mountain bike wheel. Good potential for updating it with carbon forks/bars/seat post etc.
